Does Flood Damage In A Bronx Property Mean Loss Of The Carpet?
When water damage from a storm happens, various factors affect the cleanability of the carpet in the home. We know carpet replacement is expensive and work to restore it whenever possible through the use of our advanced equipment and cleaning products.
Flood damage to your Bronx home breaks down into three categories of water.
Clean-rated as a category one biohazard. Requires no particular caution for bacteria and is not the result of storm damage entering the home as rainwater or snowmelt.
Gray-rated as a category two biohazard. May contain bacteria, microorganisms, and small amounts of chemicals In a storm damage situation, it is generally clean water that has not been cleaned up within 24 hours but less than 48 hours. Internal plumbing leaks from appliances that contain laundry products are considered gray water.
Black-rated is a Category 3 biohazardous liquid. This type of water from storm damage enters the home as groundwater or is clean water that has remained in the property for over 48 hours. The potential to contain bacteria, sewage, and mold is likely, and protective equipment is necessary during the cleanup.
Why SERVPRO? Our technicians have extensive training in the restoration trades to make a difference in saving both home and contents from the cost of replacement and loss. Additionally, our location has a general contractor license, which means we can offer a one-stop restoration and rebuilding services to clients so outsourcing the task to us reduces the stress of finding a company to do repairs and reconstructions after the completion of cleanup efforts.
If the water damage to the carpet is clean water, there is a good chance we can extract the water and dry it in place. This may involve “floating the carpet,” by lifting it from the edges to introduce warm, heated air. Gray water in a carpet usually means homeowners may not lose the floor covering, but the removal of the padding must happen for sanitary reasons. Black water is the most severe type of water loss to carpeting, and both carpet and padding require that SERVPRO technicians handle it as hazardous waste. These need to be replaced, though we always strive to restore what we can, the safety and security of our customers always come first.
